How standard telc Deutsch B1 writing is assessed

  • I. Aufgabenbewältigung: adequate coverage of the four Leitpunkte.
  • II. Kommunikative Gestaltung: organisation, connections, vocabulary and appropriate tone.
  • III. Formale Richtigkeit: grammar, spelling and punctuation, with attention to intelligibility.

For Criterion I: A = four Leitpunkte adequately addressed; B = three; C = two; D = one or none.

For each criterion, A = 5, B = 3, C = 1 or D = 0. Total = sum of the three criteria × 3; maximum = 45 points.

A response unrelated or barely related to the task receives D in all three criteria. If the topic is relevant but the situation is wrong, or only one or no content point is adequately addressed, Criterion I receives D; Criteria II and III are still assessed separately.

The cited B1 format and rubric do not specify a mandatory word count. A subject line or date is not required by the evaluation guidance. Use a suitable greeting and closing.

These models have no assigned examiner scores. No telc AI scoring is provided.

Mira

Structure & why it works

Structure

A short moving update leads to the reason for moving and a description of the new home. The furniture problem then explains the request for help. A visit time and a meal give the email a natural ending.

Why this works

The answer distinguishes the move itself from the remaining furniture problem. Jonas gets enough information to decide when to visit and what to bring.

Task points

All four Leitpunkte: evidence and explanation
Task pointGerman sentenceWhy it works
The long commute explains the move; the shorter bicycle journey shows the improvement.
Rooms and balcony describe the home, and the park adds a specific feature of the neighbourhood.
The missing screw and uncertainty about tools lead to a concrete request rather than a vague plea for help.
The invitation proposes a day, an approximate time and a meal after the practical work.

Vocabulary

Useful expressions

Connectors

aber
Contrast: aber jetzt bin ich ... — aber does not occupy the first position of the following main clause.
obwohl
Concession: obwohl noch viele Kartons ... stehen — the finite verb stands at the end.
sobald
Time: sobald du mir antwortest — the reply is the event after which Mira will send the address; antwortest comes last.

Common mistakes

  • •Use „seit einer Woche wohne ich“ for a situation that still continues; do not switch automatically to the past.
  • •Write „mit dem Fahrrad“, not „mit das Fahrrad“: mit takes the dative.
  • •A request such as „Hilf mir bitte“ alone would leave Jonas unsure which tools to bring.
