How standard telc Deutsch B1 writing is assessed

  • I. Aufgabenbewältigung: adequate coverage of the four Leitpunkte.
  • II. Kommunikative Gestaltung: organisation, connections, vocabulary and appropriate tone.
  • III. Formale Richtigkeit: grammar, spelling and punctuation, with attention to intelligibility.

For Criterion I: A = four Leitpunkte adequately addressed; B = three; C = two; D = one or none.

For each criterion, A = 5, B = 3, C = 1 or D = 0. Total = sum of the three criteria × 3; maximum = 45 points.

A response unrelated or barely related to the task receives D in all three criteria. If the topic is relevant but the situation is wrong, or only one or no content point is adequately addressed, Criterion I receives D; Criteria II and III are still assessed separately.

The cited B1 format and rubric do not specify a mandatory word count. A subject line or date is not required by the evaluation guidance. Use a suitable greeting and closing.

These models have no assigned examiner scores. No telc AI scoring is provided.

Ein gemeinsamer Nachmittag nach dem Kurs

Hallo Daniel, unser Deutschkurs endet nächste Woche.

Was hältst du davon? Viele Grüße Daniel

Structure & why it works

Structure

Daniel builds on Aylin's suggestion, explains an activity and its purpose, then gives the meeting details. Shared preparations come next, followed by the weather backup and an invitation to respond.

Why this works

The plan is concrete without pretending everyone has already agreed. Each person has a role, and the book activity gives the group a reason to keep using German.

Task points

All four Leitpunkte: evidence and explanation
Task pointGerman sentenceWhy it works
The picnic includes a book-sharing activity, and this sentence explains its value for the language group.
The previous question supplies the Sunday date; this proposal adds a precise time and meeting point.
The email divides responsibilities: Daniel handles drinks and the message, while Aylin coordinates the blanket and food.
A specific indoor venue replaces the outdoor meeting, and a possible reservation makes the backup workable.

Useful expressions

  • Was hältst du davon?

Connectors

dass
Introduces the content of the proposal: dass wir uns ... treffen; the finite verb ends the clause.
falls
Condition: Falls es regnet, könnten wir ... — the rain is possible, not certain; the main clause starts with könnten.
sobald
— the reservation enquiry follows the group count.

Common mistakes

  • •„Am Eingang“ answers where to meet; „um 14 Uhr“ answers when. Do not confuse the prepositions.
  • •A group plan should say who prepares what; listing food and drinks alone leaves the work unassigned.
