Add the points awarded for Criteria I, II and III, then multiply that sum by three. The resulting maximum of 45 points represents 15% of the 300-point exam total.
Criterion I: Aufgabenbewältigung
The top band, A, means the writing task is fully covered. The official rubric defines this as adequately developing either three Leitpunkte or two Leitpunkte plus one relevant own aspect at the target level.

A Leitpunkt must be developed substantially. A merely superficial mention does not necessarily count; the official guide says adequate treatment requires more than one single complex sentence.
Criterion II: Kommunikative Gestaltung
This criterion looks at whether the language and organization fit the communicative situation. It includes formal or less-formal register, vocabulary range, connectors, coherence and text logic.

For this (half-)formal email task, the official preparation guide says the sender address, recipient address and date are not required.
Criterion III: Formale Richtigkeit
This criterion covers grammatical control, spelling and punctuation. Raters consider systematic errors and whether mistakes interfere with comprehensibility.
When does a TELC B2 text get D?
A. Thema verfehlt
Almost no connection to the prompt
If the text has no or almost no relationship to the writing prompt, all three criteria receive D.
B. Situierung verfehlt
Related topic, wrong situation
If the general topic is addressed but the communicative situation is wrong, Criterion I receives D. Criteria II and III are still evaluated.
Who evaluates the writing?
Each writing performance is evaluated by two telc-licensed raters. The official guide explains that the second evaluation confirms or, where necessary, modifies the first; telc’s evaluation is the final result.
