How standard telc Deutsch B1 writing is assessed
- I. Aufgabenbewältigung: adequate coverage of the four Leitpunkte.
- II. Kommunikative Gestaltung: organisation, connections, vocabulary and appropriate tone.
- III. Formale Richtigkeit: grammar, spelling and punctuation, with attention to intelligibility.
For Criterion I: A = four Leitpunkte adequately addressed; B = three; C = two; D = one or none.
For each criterion, A = 5, B = 3, C = 1 or D = 0. Total = sum of the three criteria × 3; maximum = 45 points.
A response unrelated or barely related to the task receives D in all three criteria. If the topic is relevant but the situation is wrong, or only one or no content point is adequately addressed, Criterion I receives D; Criteria II and III are still assessed separately.
The cited B1 format and rubric do not specify a mandatory word count. A subject line or date is not required by the evaluation guidance. Use a suitable greeting and closing.
These models have no assigned examiner scores. No telc AI scoring is provided.

Antworten Sie Ihrer Freundin Lina.

Model answer in German
Original practice answer. All exam content is in German.
Hallo Lina,
Structure & why it works
Structure
Agree first, then ask the practical questions, explain the post and end with a meeting. Planning strategy: mark the four Leitpunkte in the order Lina needs them — yes, plants and key, post, handover — and give each one a concrete detail before you start the 30-minute timer.
Why this works
All four points can be followed without another email. The watering question and the key question stay together, the post plan distinguishes letters, advertising and parcels, and the Thursday meeting gives Lina a clear next step.
Task points
| Task point | German sentence | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Natürlich schaue ich vorbei | Tim agrees immediately and explains that a free weekend and the short walk past the baker make the help realistic. |
| The question covers frequency, and the following question asks where the key is, including a possible neighbour. |
| Letters go onto the kitchen table, advertising goes into the paper recycling, and parcels are taken home rather than left outside. |
| Thursday at 19:00 is a concrete handover, with a reason: Lina can show which plants need little water. |
Vocabulary
| German | English | Why useful |
|---|---|---|
gießen | to water | The verb for looking after the plants while Lina is away. |
der Briefkasten | letterbox | Where Tim will collect the post. |
das Altpapier | waste paper | Explains what happens to advertising leaflets. |
Useful expressions

Common mistakes
- •Write „weil ich Zeit habe“, not „weil ich habe Zeit“: the finite verb ends a weil clause.
- •Use „bei der Nachbarin“, not „bei die Nachbarin“: bei takes the dative.
- •Stay with du for a friend. „Könnten Sie vorbeischauen?“ is the wrong register in this email.
